Review: Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream SPF30 PA++

Hello everyone! I'm back with another review and this time it's from Tony Moly, the famous Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream. I've read soooo many good reviews about this product and finally decided that I need one.

So, I purchased this a while ago but sad to say, I'm not a big fan of this product. Don't get me wrong, it is not like I hate it, I just happen to have a love hate relationship with this CC cream. Maybe CC cream is just not my thing. Well, I have not try other CC creams but I might not try at all. Okay! Let's get to know more about this CC cream below.

This Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream comes in a plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. The packaging is sturdy with minimalist black and white design. I think the packaging is amazing and gives an expensive vibe despite of the affordable price. The pump dispenser is also very convinient and hygenic as it is super easy to dispense the CC cream. However, I think 1 full pump is a little bit too much, half a pump would be enough to cover the entire face. This CC cream gives only minimal coverage. It's almost like nothing but dewy (which turns into greasy and oily after a while) brightening finish to the face. I like to put extra layer on my cheeks and forehead though, to give an extra coverage.

Sad to say, I am not very fond of this CC cream. I hate how this product makes my skin, especially the T-zone area, looks super greasy/oily after a while. You can definitely minimize the greasiness by applying powder but I like how my skin look like without powder, kinda dewy and not completely matte. I did overcome this problem of greasiness by applying with sponge and not my fingers though. Still! It would have been better if the greasiness was not there in the first place.

Also, this CC cream is not suitable to be used on super hot days or on days you know you will sweat. This product melts, it just ruins your make up. Well, I live in a hot and humid country and it's basically super hot outside everyday. So, I simply never use this when I go out during the day, ever anymore.

Lately I find that this CC cream is actually pretty good as a base make up, to be used before BB cream. Although I would still only use this CC cream when I go out during the night or when I know I am going to a fully air-conditioned room. Below are the swatches of the CC cream.

I have been using this CC cream every day for more than a week but no matter how many times I've tried to convince myself that I will someday love this CC cream, I just don't. I mean it's not that I totally dislike it, I love how it brightens the face, even out my skin tone and how it contains SPF but I just don't adore it because of its cons. and oh! One more thing. During the 1 week of using this CC cream everyday, I broke out like crazy. So, I guess it just doesn't work that well for me. Here is a recap of what I think of Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream.

What I like:
  • Packaging / Pump dispenser
  • Really brigthen up my face, probably the only reason why I think this product is okay.
  • Even out my skin tone.
  • SPF 30 PA+++
  • Floral scents (although you might want to stay away if you hate fragrances in cosmetics as it is quite strong)
What I dislike:
  • Takes quite some time to blend.
  • The tiny particles sometimes feel quite harsh on the skin.
  • It makes my face looks greasy after a while. Not so sure about oil control.
  • Does not stay on hot days. It melts.
  • Breaks me out
Price: Bought mine for IDR 180,000 / around $18

Have you ever tried this CC cream before? What do you think?
Any other CC cream that you know is great? Recommend me!
I would love to try another CC cream and see if it suits me better.

  1. I've recently tried Almay's CC cream, which I love because it matches my skin tone perfectly and doesn't break me out. I set my CC cream with a matte powder because like you said, if you have oily skin, you just look oily in the t-zone area. A good matte powder keeps the shine at bay :)

  3. Aww too bad :( I heard it might not for oily skin too though cause of the greasiness and that's why I never tried it xD but thank you for the review ^^

  4. Your photos are absolutely amazing! I always love looking at your blog because of your photos hehehe. I must learn how to flawlessly photoshop cause currently I'm terrible!

And as for the CC cream, the product doesn't sound too good - greasy, breaks you out, doesn't last, doesn't blend. So yeah, thanks for the honest review! I know I'll be skipping this for sure!

  6. Could it be that I fell in love with your photos, they are just so amazing! It's really a bummer that the cc cream doesnt suit you >< I personally not a fan of CC cream because of its sheer coverage but it is still good for those who opt for natural look.

PS: definitely subscribe your blog! :D

  7. I haven't used any CC creams yet, I'm still an avid BB cream user. I haven't heard of any really good or raved about CC creams, so I've always steered clear. Too bad it didn't work out for you! :( Great review though! ^__^b

  8. I agree with you 100% - I got a deluxe sample with my Tony Moly purchase and took it out recently to give it a try as I was having a good skin week. Bad mistake - this made me break out so badly. So much for good skin week :(

I did like the luminosity it lent to me but it ended turning into a sad greasy mess in the end AND I even ended up powdering to ensure it's longevity.
